Cash 4 Nick

"Name's Nick, but don't bother learning it, 'cause I'm not planning on sticking around much longer."

Nick is one of the four Survivors from the second Left 4 Dead game. He's a con man and gambler drifting from city to city, and trapped - to his chagrin - in Savannah, stuck with two Southern hicks and an obnoxious news reporter. He doesn't like his fellow Survivors at first, but he learns to appreciate and trust them through the six campaigns of the game, same way his fellows learn to tolerate his snarky behaviour, sarcasm and general complaining attitude.

He's my favourite character of the entire L4D series, with Zoey and Francis coming in second. Nick is sarcastic, snide and cynical, even going so far as to make jokes when other Survivors get pinned by special infected ("Ten bucks says he takes him to the right"), and even when they die ("There goes repopulating the Earth..."). On the other hand, many of his quotes betray a genuine affection for his fellow Survivors, and it's more than likely that his snarky, caustic comments are made to give himself an attitude than out of a genuine despise for the others.

This portrait is from the zombie survival guide (i.e., the L4D2 intro), when the Survivors raid a store or safe house. While the others are busy making real and necessary preparations, all Nick can think of is looking inside the cash register.
